Spring Semester: Week 16-Coyote School News

 Week 16: Coyote School News

Ramon Ramirez is a boy who lives on a ranch in Arizona, USA.

The ranch is on land that was a part of Mexico before, but the USA bought the territory and love the border line up in 1854.

Ramon's father made a joke that Ramon's great-grandfather than an Americano or American because he changed when the border did.

The ranch's name is Rancho San Isidro or the Ramirez Ranch.

They raise chickens, pigs, cattle, and horses on the ranch.

The school that Ramon and his five brothers and sisters go to is called Coyote School.

The Coyote School News story is a historical fiction story set during the 1930s when President Franklin Roosevelt is still in the White House.

The Ramirez family speaks Spanish, but several of them know how to read, write, and/or speak English.

Ramon knows several of the girls and boys at Coyote school which includes Natalia and Rosie.

Rosie lives at Coyote Ranch which is near Coyote School.

Miss Byers is a new teacher at Coyote School.

Ramon and some of the other students started a school newspaper called Coyote News.

Miss Byers helped the students make a mimeograph and print copies of Coyote News.

Other than the cattle, pigs, and chickens, they also picked chilies on the Ramirez Ranch.

The Ramirez family is large, and Ramon only sees some family members of Christmas, weddings, funerals, and other festivals.

His family will go to Catholic mass and make tamales, menudo, tortillas, cakes, and coffee for Christmas and Christmas Eve.

The boys at the ranch will help with the cattle roundup where they will lasso calves and wrestle them to the ground.

They like to have a BBQ afterwards where they also play music, dance, and drink soda.

On the last day of school, Miss Byers gave the Coyote School students a fiesta with lots of baked goods like cupcakes and soda pop.

Miss Byers gave him an award for his writing work for Coyote School News.

It included a silver dollar coin.
