Vocabulary Words and Definitions
1 sequence (n.): the order in which things happen
2 summarize (v.): to tell a story or report again using fewer words
3 point of view (phr.): an opinion or perspective on something
4 realistic fiction (n.): a story which is made up, but the events in it could happen in reality
5 genre (n.): type of; kind of (like a story, movie, etc)
6 experience (n.): things you have experienced
7 Florida (prop. n.): a state in the Southeast of the USA; next to Georgia
8 preacher (n.): someone who teaches about religion
9 fancy (adj.): special and usually expensive; not plain or ordinary
10 library (n.): building where we can borrow books from
11 hind (adj.): at the back of something
12 hum (v.): making a low continuous sound
13 tremble (v.): shaking slightly due to fear, excitement, nervousness
14 shake (v.): moving back and forth or up and down, with short, quick movements
15 stuck (adj.): difficult or impossible to move from a position
16 librarian (n.): a person who works in a library
17 shadow (n.): a dark shape made when light is blocked
18 sniff (v.): to suck in air through your nose, like when you have a cold
19 snatch (v.): to take something in a quick way
20 wrinkled (adj.): having wrinkles (lines) on (one’s face or body)
21 friendless (adj.) : without friends, with no close companions
22 talent (n.) : to have extraordinary ability in some field
23 march (v.) : to walk quickly and like a soldier
24 difficult (adj.) : to be hard to do or achieve
25 advanced (adj.) : to have a high level of skill, ability, or knowledge
26 pretend (v.): to act in a way to trick or deceive others
27 wink (v.) : to close your eye quickly and with intention
28 recently (adv.) : something that happened not too long ago
29 arrival (n.) : someone or something went from another place to here
30 scrappy (adj.) : to look messy, disorderly, or unkempt
